Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek Overview

The Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek is one of the popular treks in the Langtang region of Nepal. The mountains, flora, and fauna of Langtang National park and the wonderful Himalayan views along with the culture and traditions of local people are the major attractions of the trek.

The excellent views of the mountains above 5000 m. along the trail adds the mind-blowing beauty in the Langtang region of Nepal. The diverse geographical variations including the arid hills, valleys, gorges, passes, waterfalls and lakes during the trek are fascinating and major things to explore. 

The Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu trek comprises some of the popular destinations and vantage points which offer the spectacular Himalayan beauty and the rural lifestyle of the region. Kyanjin Ri, Gosainkunda, and Chisapani are the major places of the trek and you will get a chance to explore the hidden treasures of the Langtang region of Nepal. The moderate difficulty, yet immense pristine and rural natural beauty of Langtang region lures a lot of tourists to trek every year. 

Not so commercialized as Everest and Annapurna region trekking, Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu trek is an ideal trek for avid trekkers who want to indulge themselves into the true natural horizon. Even if you are a beginner for trekking, this trek is an ideal option because of its moderate altitude variations and comparatively easier trail. The Kyanjin Ri and Gosaikunda lie in the Langtang region of Nepal, however, getting to Chisapani follow the route of Helambu. 

Although the trekking destinations in this trek lie in the isolated parts of Nepal, you do not need to get camping gear. There are teahouses and lodges established to facilitate trekkers en route. After some government procedures of obtaining permits and getting trekking permission from the tourism board and Langtang National Park, you can pursue trekking in the Langtang region of Nepal. 

The Langtang valley is Tibetan culture influenced valley, inhabited by the Tamangs. The different cultural places including temples, gompas, and monasteries are also places to explore in the Langtang valley. Some of the major attractions of Langtang are Gosainkunda Lake, Kyanjin Gompa, village, Buddhist culture, and traditions. The Helambu valley is highly inhabited by the Hylmos. The wonderful Langtang National Park offers the mindblowing floral and faunal species including some of the rare Red pandas and other animals.

The highest point in the Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu trek is Kyanjin Ri at an altitude of 4773 m above sea level. The Gosainkunda lake at an elevation of 4380 m offers splendid freshwater beauty along with the sight of mountains. One of the major destinations of this trek is Chisapani as well. The views of Manaslu, Ganesh Hima, Gaurishankar and Langtang Lirung from Chisapani at 2215 m are spectacular and fascinating.

Detailed Itinerary

  • DAY 1

    Arrival at Kathmandu, Transfer to Hotel

    Your Arrival Time (?) Our office representative will meet and greet you at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu.

    At 06:00 PM: In the evening we will meet for a coffee and will brief you the details of your trek program.
    Elevation: 1,350M

  • DAY 2

    Sightseeing around Kathmandu valley and Trek Preparation.

    At 10:00 AM: You will visit for a full day sightseeing of Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and Pashupatinath. Besides sightseeing, you can do the required shopping for your trek.

  • DAY 3

    Drive to Syabrubesi.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast in the morning, we will drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek. The drive takes around eight hours and passes through rural lowland villages where we can observe the procession of an ordinary day. Scenic views of mountains and stretches of rolling hills also accompany you. Overnight stay at a Syabrubesi.

  • DAY 4

    Trek to Lama Hotel.

    At 08:00 AM: The trek to Lama Hotel is mostly following the upstream of Langtang River. After crossing a suspension bridge, we pass a stream. The walk continues along with forests of Bamboo, Rhododendron and other alpine trees. It’s an easy walk despite the wavy nature of the trail. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.
    Elevation: 2,480M

  • DAY 5

    Trek to Langtang Village.

    At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, we move on through a trail along with dense forests which ascends towards Ghoda Tabela. Views of Langtang Ri and the Langtang Village are magnificent from here. As we move to the Langtang Village, prayer flags, chortens, mani walls and water mills welcome us. Overnight stay at a lodge in Langtang Valley.

  • DAY 6

    Trek to Kyanjin Gompa.

    At 08:00 AM: We will leave the village after breakfast, we move on through high pasture lands where yaks graze. Today’s walk is mostly walking alongside the mani walls and across wooden bridges, high altitude atmosphere can be felt as we reach Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight stay in Kyanjin Gompa.
    Elevation: 3,830M

  • DAY 7

    Hike to Kyanjin Ri.

    At 06:00 AM: It’s a day for exploration. A hike to Kyanjin Ri is scheduled in the morning. Incredible landscape views of Langtang range joys the eyes at the elevation. After returning, we can explore around Kyanjing Gompa which is also the settlement area for Buddhist community people.

  • DAY 8

    Trek to Lama Hotel.

    At 08:00 AM: We walk past scenic trails to get back to Lama Hotel via Ghoda tabela. The route is mostly a descent and an easy and pleasant walk. Overnight stay in a Lama Hotel.

  • DAY 9

    Trek to Thulo Syabru.

    At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, we will start to descend to the Landslide. From Landslide the trail gets separated, one leading to Thulo syabru and another to Syabrubesi. We will ascend from landslide to Thulo Syabru. From here we can have a pleasant view of Langtang Lirung and other Tibetan Himalayan ranges. Overnight at Teahouse.
    Elevation: 2,100M

  • DAY 10

    Trek to Sing Gompa.

    At 08:00 AM: The trail starts with the steep ascent path passing through Dursagang (2660m.) leading to Foprang Danda (3200m.). Throughout the trail, there are breathtaking views of the Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountains, forests of oak and hemlock, rhododendron forest and pastures. After reaching the sing gompa we will visit the cheese factory. Overnight at Sing Gompa.

  • DAY 11

    Trek to Gosaikunda.

    At 08:00 AM: The trail today is all climbing up. After breakfast, we will start our trek towards Gosaikunda. We will pass by the Cholang Pati, Lauribinayak, Lauribinayak pass reaching Gosaikunda. From Lauribinayak pass the 360-degree view of high Himalayan peaks can be seen. The trail from Lauribinayak pass to Gosaikunda is comparatively easier and flat. Before the Lake Gosaikunda, we will pass by two beautiful other lakes, Sworswoti Kunda and Bhairab Kunda. According to the legend, Gosainkunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world Overnight at Gosaikunda teahouse.

  • DAY 12

    Trek to Ghopte.

    At 08:00 AM: After exploring the lake area in the morning we will then start our journey via Lauribinayak pass. The trekking to We will march towards Helambu trial through dense rhododendron forest. After the top, a long downhill reaches Phedi (bottom), from here on the long winding trail and back into the forest all the way to Ghopte Odar for the overnight stop.

  • DAY 13

    Trek to Kutumsang.

    At 08:00 AM: we will walk through the trail that joins the Helambu circuit with Kathmandu. Trekking is pleasant into the cool forest with an hour climb to Tharepati. This trail descends through the forest on the ridge and moves towards the shepherd’s village Mangengoth which is also the last spot to see Dorje Lakpa from our trek.

  • DAY 14

    Trek to Chisapani.

    At 08:00 AM: From kutumsang, we ascend to jogin danda ridge then follow the step down to Gul Bhanjyang and climb through wide road to another ridge of Thotong and Lapcha Danda. The local people of these villages are brahmin and chhetris. After narrow trials, we will reach Patibhanjyang from where Sundari Jal is less than two hours of walk.

  • DAY 15

    Trek to Sundarijal, Drive to Kathmandu.

    At 08:00 AM: Early in the morning, you see a satisfying view of mountains, such as Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Gaurishanker,  Langtang Ranges, and Annapurnas.we will move towards Borlang Bhanjyang from where the trail drops down to Sundarijal and Shivapuri National Park. it takes 1 hour to reach Kathmandu. You will get shopping time in Kathmandu and we will have a farewell Nepali dinner together.

  • DAY 16

    Departure.

    You will be free until your flight time; we will drop you at Kathmandu Airport 3 hour before your flight.
