Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Overview


Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is popular trekking to the Langtang region of Nepal. The perfect blend of two finest destination regions in Langtang that are Langtang valley itself and the mindblowing Gosaikunda lake makes this trek one of the wonderful trekking experience in the Langtang region of Nepal. The Thirteen-day Langtang Gosainkunda trek takes you to the pristine Gosaikunda lakes and Langtang valley where you will be facilitated with the best natural and cultural experience. The Langtang Gosaikunda comprises of several villages and mountains in the Langtang region and Gosainkunda Lake. However, the trek can be extended by adding Helambu circuit trek. 

The amazing flora and fauna of Langtang National Park, valleys, lakes and glaciers are the major attractions of Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. The diverse terrains of the Langtang region, pass, mountains and valleys offer a unique experience. The remote settlement of the Langtang valley and Gosaikunda is also a major thing to explore in rural Nepal. 

Trekking to Langtang Gosaikunda starts with a drive from Kathmandu valley. This 13 days trek itinerary comprises of some parts of Langtang National Park, Langtang valley, villages and Gosaikunda lakes. The trek starting point is Syabrubesi after a drive from Kathmandu valley and the trek ends in Dhunche with getting a drive back to Kathmandu. 

The Langtang is geographically close to the Tibetan plateau. The highest altitude of the Langtang Gosaikunda trek is 4400 m above sea level. This is a moderate difficulty level trek and anybody with a good fitness level can undergo this trek. The trek is accessible and there are several teahouses and lodges available. You don’t need to camp around as you will get teahouses on the trek. 

The trekking to Langtang is mindblowing as you will be exploring the Rhododendron and Oak forest along with the diverse species of flora and fauna. The Langtang National Park is home to the diversified flora and fauna. The rare and endangered species such as Red Panda, snow leopard, clouded leopard, musk deer etc. found here. 

The cultural group of Langtang Gosaikunda is highly influenced by Tibetan practices. The Buddhist culture is prevalent in this region as the border is close to the Tibet. Major ethnic groups found here are Tamang and Sherpas. However, you might encounter Brahin and Chhetris in some places. 

A drive from Kathmandu will take you to the beautiful village of Syabrbesi. The drive takes around eight hours and passes through rural lowland villages where you can observe the procession of an ordinary day with scenic views of mountains stretching towards valleys and lakes. Syabrubesi is also the trek starting point of Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. The trail from Syabrubesi will take you to Lama Hotel. following the upstream of Langtang River. Crossing a suspension bridge and stream, trekking further continues along with the forests of Bamboo, Rhododendron and other alpine trees. 

The trekking from Lama Hotel will take you to the village of Langtang. The mindblowing views of Langtang Ri and the Langtang Valley are magnificent from the Ghoda Tablela, enroute Langtang village. The prayer flags, chortens, mani walls and watermills will make you feel like entering the valley of spirituals in the mountains. From Langtang village, you will trek further to Kyanjin Gompa walking through the pasture lands and wooden bridges. 

A hike to Kyanjin Ri offers incredible landscape views of Langtang range and adjacent mountains. You will also explore Kyanjing Gompa which is famous for the Buddhist community. Along the scenic trails, you will get back to Lama Hotel via Ghoda Tabela. The descending trail will take you to the Thulo Syabru from where you can have a pleasant view of Langtang Lirung and other Tibetan Himalayan ranges.

With the steep ascent path passing through Dursagang and Foprang Danda, you will trek further to Sing Gompa. The breathtaking views of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountains, forests of oak and hemlock, rhododendron forest and pasture lands are the major attractions of Sing Gompa. 

The next trekking will take you to the mindblowing Gosaikunda. The Cholang Pati, Lauribinayak, Lauribinayak pass will take you to the beautiful lake Gosaikunda. From Lauribinayak pass the 360-degree view of high Himalayan peaks can be seen. The Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda along the way are equally astounding and offers the ardent yet spectacular beauty of the glacial lakes in the Langtang region of Nepal.

ITINERARY

  • DAY 1
    Kathmandu Arrival, Transfer to Hotel.

    Your Arrival Time (?) Our office representative will meet and greet you at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu.

    At 06:00 PM: In the evening we will meet for a coffee and will brief you the details of your trek program.
    Elevation: 1350M

    *Optionally you can add one additional night stay in Kathmandu to cover cultural sightseeing in Kathmandu as well for your trek preparation shopping.

    Kathmandu Full Day Sightseeing: You will visit for a full day sightseeing in Kathmandu of Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Square, Boudhanath and Swayambhunath.

    Meal: Not Included.

  • DAY 2
    Drive to Syabrubesi.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast in the morning, we will drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek. The drive takes around eight hours and passes through rural lowland villages where we can observe the procession of an ordinary day. Scenic views of mountains and stretches of rolling hills also accompany you. Overnight stay at a Syabrubesi.
    Elevation: 1,500M

  • DAY 3
    Trek to Lama Hotel.

    At 08:00 AM: The trek to Lama Hotel is mostly following the upstream of Langtang River. After crossing a suspension bridge, we pass a stream. The walk continues along with forests of Bamboo, Rhododendron and other alpine trees. It’s an easy walk despite the wavy nature of the trail. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.
    Elevation: 2,480M

  • DAY 4
    Trek to Langtang village.

    At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, we move on through a trail along with dense forests which ascends towards Ghoda Tabela. Views of Langtang Ri and the Langtang Village are magnificent from here. As we move to the Langtang Village, prayer flags, chortens, mani walls and water mills welcome us. Overnight stay at a lodge in Langtang Valley.
    Elevation: 3,430M

  • DAY 5
    Trek to Kyanjin Gompa.

    At 08:00 AM: We will leave the village after breakfast, we move on through high pasture lands where yaks graze. Today’s walk is mostly walking alongside the mani walls and across wooden bridges, high altitude atmosphere can be felt as we reach Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight stay in a Kyanjin Gompa lodge.
    Elevation: 3,830M

  • DAY 6
    Hike to Kyanjin Ri.

    At 06:00 AM: It’s a day for exploration. A hike to Kyanjin Ri is scheduled in the morning. Incredible landscape views of Langtang range joys the eyes at the elevation. After returning back, we can explore around Kyanjing Gompa which is also the settlement area for Buddhist community people.
    Elevation: 4,400M

    Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

  • DAY 7
    Trek to Lama Hotel.

    At 08:00 AM: We walk past scenic trails to get back to Lama Hotel via Ghoda Tabela. The route is mostly a descent and an easy and pleasant walk. Overnight stay in a Lama Hotel.
    Elevation: 2,480M

    Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

  • DAY 8
    Trek to Thulo Syabru.

    At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, we will start to descend to the Landslide. From Landslide the trail gets separated, one leading to Thulo Syabru and another to Syabrubesi. We will ascend from landslide to Thulo Syabru. From here we can have a pleasant view of Langtang Lirung and other Tibetan Himalayan ranges. Overnight at Teahouse.
    Elevation: 2,100M

  • DAY 9
    Trek to Sing Gompa.

    At 08:00 AM: The trail starts with the steep ascent path passing through Dursagang (2660m.) leading to Foprang Danda (3200m.). Throughout the trail, there are breathtaking views of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountains, forests of oak and hemlock, rhododendron forest and pastures. After reaching the sing gompa we will visit the cheese factory. Overnight at Sing Gompa.
    Elevation: 3,250M

  • DAY 10
    Trek to Gosaikunda.

    At 08:00 AM: The trail today is all climbing up. After breakfast, we will start our trek towards Gosaikunda. We will pass by the Cholang pati, Lauribinayak, Lauribinayak pass reaching Gosaikunda. From Lauribinayak pass the 360-degree view of high Himalayan peaks can be seen. The trail from Lauribinayak pass to Gosaikunda is comparatively easier and flat. Before the Lake Gosaikunda, we will pass by two beautiful other lakes, Sworswoti Kunda and Bhairab Kunda. According to the legend, Gosainkunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world Overnight at Gosaikunda teahouse.
    Elevation: 4,360M

  • DAY 11
    Trek to Dhunche.

    At 08:00 AM: After exploring the lake area in the morning we will then start to descend down following the same way towards Cholang Pati and Lauri Binayak. The trail is all going down towards Dhunche a district headquarter. Overnight at Dhunche hotel.
    Elevation: 2,030M

    Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

  • DAY 12
    Drive to Kathmandu.

    On this day you are returning to Kathmandu by drive. You will get shopping time in Kathmandu and we will have a farewell Nepali dinner together.
    Elevation: 1,350M

    Meal: Breakfast and Dinner Included.

  • DAY 13
    Departure.
    You will be free until your flight time; we will drop you at Kathmandu Airport 3 hour before your flight.
