Helambu circuit Trek Overview

Helambu Circuit Trek is one of the shortest treks that can be completed in 11 days. Langtang region encompasses the mindblowing flora and fauna, wildlife, pristine natural beauty, and the vibrant culture and traditions. The beautiful monasteries, Mani walls, and astounding snowcapped Himalayan views attract a lot of people in this trekking route. Helambu Circuit Trek offers the spectacular views of Mount Everest, Jugal Himal, Manaslu, Langtang, and Annapurna ranges. The fascinating, short and immense offerings of the Langtang region make this trek an ideal choice for avid trekkers. 

The major part of Helambu circuit trekking is inhabited by Sherpas which has their unique cultural practices than that of the Khumbu region. Less crowded, mindblowing landscapes and amazing flora and fauna are the major attractions of the trek. You will get an excellent chance to witness the vibrant culture and astounding natural offerings on this trek. Not so strenuous and easy trekking to the Helambu of Nepal is probably the best short trekking that has so many things to offer. The Helambu circuit trek starts from Sundarijal and ends in Melamchi Pul Bazaar. You will also get an opportunity to explore the Ama Yangri Peak during the trekking. 

Helambu Circuit Trek is a newly introduced trek because of that it is not so explored and less human interfered. The pristine culture and traditions, and the immense natural beauty of the trek make this trek one of the best short trekking in Nepal. You will not be getting to the high altitudes so there are fewer chances of High Altitude Sickness making it favorable for beginners. You do not require any camping and don’t need to be completely self-sustained as there are teahouse, lodges, and homestays available in the trekking route. Further, you need to obtain some permits to complete the trek. 

Witness the astounding mountain ranges and the wonderful Gosainkunda Lake during the trek. The amazing cultural practices of Sherpas and Tamang during the trek adds beauty to the trip. Starting from the Kathmandu valley, the trek takes you to the wonderful Tamang and Sherpa villages with a sight of the Himalayas and the unexplored rural settlement. 

The trek starts from Sundarijal after a short drive from central Kathmandu. After the trek from Sundarijal, you will reach Chisapani, which lies at an altitude of 2215 m above sea level. Gul Bhanjyang is another village that you will enjoy. The amazing beauty of the village and the local hospitality of the people is wonderful. The Pati Bhanjyang, Thakuni Bhanjyang, Chibling and Jhogin Danda along the way to Gul Bhanjyang are awe-inspiring and offers mindblowing rural beauty. 

The fascinating views of mountain ranges of the Helambu region during the trek to Thare Pati is wonderful. The beautiful Rhododendron forest is also a major attraction of the trek. The monastery of Tarke Ghyang at an elevation of 2560 offers the spiritual ambience and the culture influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.  The monastery in Tarke Ghyang is also a major monastery of the Helambu region of Nepal. 

After exploring the monastery, the further trail will take you to the Ama Yangri. It is also the highest point of the trek. It acts as a vantage point from where you can see the wonderful Himalayas, villages and the valleys. The jaw-dropping views of the mountains which include the Langtang range, Mount Everest, majestic Annapurna, Makalu, and some other neighbouring mountains can be seen from Ama Yangri. Ama Yangri is also a religious site for Tamangs and Sherpas of the Helambu region. The literal translation in the local language, Ama Yangri means saviour or mother of the Helambu who protects the inhabitants from the calamities and disasters. 

The beautiful Rhododendron forest in your further trek along the way to Shermarthang village is also a major thing to explore in this trek. The Shemarthang village is situated at an altitude of 2621 m above sea level. It is also a major developed village in the Helambu circuit trek. The trekking further will end at Melamchi pul Bazaar from where you will have a drive back to the Kathmandu valley. 

The Helambu Circuit Trek is a short and wonderful trek in the Langtang region of Nepal. It offers splendid mountain beauty and the cultural and natural spectrums in the rural villages of Nepal.

Detailed Itinerary

  • DAY 1

    Kathmandu Arrival, Transfer to Hotel.

    Your Arrival Time (?) Our office representative will meet and greet you at Kathmandu airport and transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu.

    At 06:00 PM: In the evening we will meet for a coffee and will brief you the details of your trek program.
    Elevation: 1,350M

    Meal: Not Included.

  • DAY 2

    Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation.

    At 10:00 AM: You will visit for a full day sightseeing of Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and Pashupatinath. Besides sightseeing, you can do the required shopping for your trek.
    Elevation: 1,350M

  • DAY 3

    Drive to Sundarijal, Trek to Chisapani.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, our office representative along with your trekking guide and the potter will pick you from the hotel. After a short about 1 and a half-hour of drive, you will reach Sundarijal and start your trek. You will pass through Mulkharka and multiple tea houses before reaching mountain pass at an altitude of 2,466 meters above from sea level. After the mountain pass, you will decent downwards to reach Chisapani.
    Elevation: 2,215M

  • DAY 4

    Trek to Gul Bhanjyang.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, you will start your trek towards Gul Bhanjyang. After a few hours of walk, you will reach Pati Bhanjyang situated at an altitude of 1768 meters above from sea level. During your walk, you can observe the amazing views of the mountains. After that, you will pass through Thakuni Bhanjyang, Chibling and Jhogin Danda Ridge. You will pass through rhododendron forest before reaching Gul Bhanjyang.
    Elevation: 2,140M

  • DAY 5

    Trek to Tharepati.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, you will start your trek. During the first few hours of the trek, you will start ascending to the top of the hill from where you can have an amazing view of mountain ranges of Helambu valley. Passing through the streams and steep hills you will reach Yurin Danda. Continue walking through rhododendron forest you will reach Tharepati. Upon reaching Tharepati you can witness the beautiful Gosainkunda lake and marvellous mountain ranges.

  • DAY 6

    Trek to Melamchi Gaon.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, you will continue your trek. From Melamchi, the trail descends downwards and you will pass through rhododendron and pine forest. You can also have the amazing view of Helambu valley as well as Numbur and Jugal Himal. After a few hours of walk, you will reach the Melamchi Gaon.
    Elevation: 2,640M

  • DAY 7

    Trek to Tarke Ghyang.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, you will start your trek. At the first few hours of the trek, you will start descending downwards until you reach a river. After that, you will climb upward towards sherpa village Nakota. After Nakota you will start descending and finally starts climbing before reaching Tarke Ghyang. You will witness one of the oldest monasteries of the Helambu area before reaching Trake Ghyang. At Tarke Ghyang also you will see a monastery from which the place got its name.

  • DAY 8

    Hike to Aama Yangri, Back to Tarke Ghyang.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, you will start climbing towards Aama Yangri. It will take about 4 to 5 hour to reach Aama Yangri from Tarke Ghyang. During your walk, you will leave your bags at the hotel and start walking. From the top of Aama Yangri, you can have an awesome view of the mountain ranges including Mount Everest along with Manaslu, Langtang and Annapurna ranges during clear weather. Hike down to Tarke Ghyang for the overnight stay

  • DAY 9

    Trek to Shermathang.

    At 08:00 AM: After breakfast, you will start your trek towards Shermathang. It will take about 5 hours to reach Shermathang from Tarke Ghyang. You will pass through a forest before reaching Shermathang. Upon reaching Shermathang you can visit one of the oldest monasteries around the area and interact with the locals or just visit the awesome sherpa village.
    Elevation: 2,621M

  • DAY 10

    Trek to Melamchi Pul Bazaar, Drive to Kathmandu.

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, you will start your descend towards Melamchi Pul Bazaar. You will pass through different small settlement areas and monasteries before reaching Melamchi Pul Bazaar. Upon reaching Melamchi situated at an altitude of 828 meters above from sea level you will drive to Kathmandu. At Kathmandu, you will be transferred to a hotel and you will have free time. In the evening we will have a farewell Nepali dinner together.

  • DAY 11

    Departure.

    Breakfast at the hotel. You will have free time until your flight. Our office representative will drop you to the airport 3 hours before your departure time.
