Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route

As many of you may be wondering, what is the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route that you will be going on this tour? No worries, we’ve got you covered! The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a scenic and picturesque route that connects Toyama City of Toyama Prefecture and Omachi Town of Nagano Prefecture and covers approximately a distance of 90 km. On this route, you will go on an epic bus ride where you can witness the breathtaking snow corridors, located on the higher sections of Midagahara and Murodo, which are definitely a major highlight of this route. These snow corridors are these giant walls of snow, located on both sides of the road (with the main route in between) that measure up to a massive 18-20 meters that you’ll be traveling through. Additionally, the opening months for this route, which begins in April and lasts till June. For smaller groups that consist of up to 15 people, tickets for this need to be booked two to three months prior, as for larger groups (around 20 people), tickets need to be issued even earlier.

You can also visit the Tateyama Alpine route during other months of the year as well, as this route stays open from April to November throughout the year, giving you ample opportunities to travel through this one-of-a-kind route in Japan! So if you happen to miss out on the snow corridors (which only last from April to June), then worry not! You can still enjoy other spectacular and scenic views on this breathtaking route during different seasons:

Day 1

Arrival in Japan, Shizuoka Sightseeing.

At (Your Arrival Time): Welcome to Japan! A country famous for its natural landscapes, towering skyscrapers, and bustling food markets! Upon arrival at Narita International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our representative, who will ensure your transfer to the hotel. Complete the check-in procedure and proceed with the day’s sightseeing. Firstly, you will be visiting the Mishima SkyWalk, which is a 400-meter-long suspension bridge from where you can spot the famous Mount Fuji (the highest mountain in Japan) along with the scenic Suruga Bay. Here, you can take a walk around and click photos/videos to capture the beauty of Mount Fuji and its surrounding areas!

After this, you will be going for lunch and then exploring Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station, also known as Fuji 5th level. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, Lake Yamanaka, and city views of Fujiyoshida. Once you visit all these top-notch destinations, return to your hotel, where you can enjoy your delicious dinner (which will consist of a buffet system along with a separate section for crab buffet). After having your fulfilling dinner, enjoy the rest of the night off in the hotel.

Day 2

Full Day Sightseeing, Drive to Ogisawa.

At 07:00 AM: Good Morning! Have a fulfilling breakfast at the hotel and get ready for today’s exciting sightseeing. Firstly, you will be attending the Shibazakura Festival, which is an annual flower festival held in the Oishi park area near Mount Fuji, which will surely leave you mesmerized as you can see colorful varieties of pink moss or phlox moss covering a huge area of land with walkable paths. Next, you will visit Oshino Hakkai, a small village also known as the Eight Seas of Oshino, which will add a more peaceful and serene energy to your day! Here, you can witness 8 crystal clear ponds with various breeds of fish and ducks swimming, along with old traditional houses spread across the area. 

After this, you will be having lunch and then driving towards Matsumoto, which takes approximately 2-3 hours from Oshino Hakkai. Here you will explore Matsumoto Castle (the last sightseeing destination), also known as Crow Castle, given due to its deep black exterior color. Measuring at 30 meters in height, this is one of Japan’s grandest castles! Moreover, the castle has a collection of ancient samurai weapons and armors. If you happen to visit during mid-April, you’ll also be able to catch a glimpse of beautiful cherry blossom trees from the castle as well. After visiting these fabulous destinations, you will then drive towards Ogisawa, which takes approximately 1 to 2 hours.

After reaching Ogisawa, complete the check-in procedure, have your delicious dinner at the hotel, and enjoy your overnight stay.

Day 3

Alpine Route Sightseeing, Drive to Takayama.

At 07:00 AM: After having a fulfilling breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Ogisawa station, where you will travel through the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, which is a uniquely designed mountain route that connects Nagano and Toyama prefectures. This is no ordinary route and looks like a literal dream turned into a reality! You will be going through a scenic bus route surrounded by giant walls of snow on both sides of the road that measure up to a massive 18-20 meters. 

You’ll be able to see the glorious Tateyama mountain range as well during this journey! Following this, you will then have lunch and then drive towards Takayama, which takes approximately 2-3 hours to reach. After this, proceed for dinner and then head towards the hotel, where you can complete the check-in procedure and enjoy the rest of the night off.

Note: The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is subject to availability, as the months for this route are limited in nature and begin from April to June. Additionally, private tours (2-4 people) along with group tours (5-15) are also offered during the route.

Day 4

Gifu Prefecture Sightseeing, Drive back to Takayama.

At 07:00 AM: After having a fulfilling breakfast at the hotel, you will firstly explore the Miyagawa Morning Market, which is one of the famous markets of Gifu, where you’ll see many vibrant shops and stalls selling fresh local/handmade products along with traditional cuisines as well, which will also help you learn about Japan’s lifestyle and cultural heritage. Next, explore the Takayama Sanmachi Suji, a historical district which houses three main streets that are popular for having many traditional buildings featuring the Machiya style of architecture. Ideal for history lovers, a walk around this area will definitely transport you back in time, as most of the ancient buildings follow similar architectural styles and designs used during the Edo period (which is 16th-18th century Japan). 

Following this, you will have lunch and then drive towards Shirakawago, which takes approximately 1-2 hours to reach. Here, you will explore Shirakawago Village (a UNESCO World Heritage site), which is a historic village located in Gifu, popular for its ancient-style houses that are estimated to be built during the 1800’s. Built in Gassho-zukuri and A-frame architecture, you will see that most of the houses have deep thatched roofs, a significant trademark of the houses built in this historic area. 

Next, visit Gassho Village, the final destination that looks right out of a fairytale! Consisting of numerous traditional A-frame houses with old-fashioned water wheels, mesmerizing onsens (hot springs), ancient shrines, and lush green trees, you’ll surely feel a sense of calm and tranquility after taking a trip in this village! Finally, you will drive towards Takayama, which takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. After reaching Takayama, have a fulfilling dinner and then complete the check-in procedure in your hotel and enjoy your overnight stay.

Day 5

Full Day Sightseeing, Drive to Tokyo.

At 07:00 AM: After having a fulfilling breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Nagano, which takes approximately 3-4 hours to reach. Here, you will visit the Daio Wasabi Farm, which is one of Japan’s largest wasabi farms. This farm consists of many large fields filled with wasabi plants along with small streams made to provide water to it. You’ll also be able to see traditional water wheels scattered across these vibrant green fields.

After this, you will have lunch and then drive to Gotemba Premium Outlets, which is a literal paradise for shopping lovers! Consisting of numerous stores, this is an open-air outlet mall where you'll find quality handmade products, clothes, footwear, and electronics, available for all age groups. After visiting this final destination, your sightseeing is completed for the day. After this, you will then drive towards Tokyo, which takes approximately 2-3 hours to reach. Complete the check-in procedure after reaching the hotel in Tokyo. 

Note: This day, you can have dinner on your own in the nearby hotel area and then check back into the hotel for an overnight stay.

Farewell, Departure!

Visa Requirements and Travel Documents

To travel to Japan from Nepal, you need to fulfill certain visa requirements and ensure that you have the necessary travel documents in order. Additionally, Nepali citizens intending to visit Japan need a tourist visa for which they need the required documents: 

  • Original Passport with 6 months of validity and at least 1 blank page, with 3 copies of bio page.
  • 1 MRP size photo (45 mm x 35 mm) with a white background. (please note that white shirts with white backgrounds are not acceptable; the photo should be clear and identifiable, taken within the last 6 months).
  • Proof of sufficient funds that defray all expenses while in Japan, which include:
  • Original bank statement of the past 3 months, which is to be issued the day prior of visa application. Note: For couples traveling together, only 1 bank statement can be shown for both the husband and wife, for this you will need to verify the relationship with your spouse by submitting your original marriage certificate.
  • Original bank balance certificate (also known as certificate of deposit balance)
  • A certificate of income and tax payment issued by a public agency (original)
  • For the income documents: if you own a company/business, documents like a company registration certificate, a tax clearance certificate with photocopies, and an original translation paper are required (original).
  • If you are employed, you also need an employment letter confirming employment details that must include the initial date of working, salary, position, length of employment, leave grant date for Japan, and the original tax clearance certificate. The letter must also include company contact details and company letterhead.
  • Original Marriage certificate (if you are married and traveling with your spouse)
  • Original relationship certificate that shows relationship with sponsor (if someone is sponsoring you)
  • All original documents should be submitted with a set of photocopies, which must be in A4 size.

Note: All the documents that are issued in Nepali should be original; in case the documents are in Nepali, they should be translated into English.
