Mera Peak and Amphu Lapcha La pass trek is a rural privilege in the mountains of the eastern part of Nepal. The amazing Amphu Lapcha La pass is the major highlight of the trek while you can also explore the mindblowing Mera Peak. The Amphu Lapcha La Pass lies at an altitude of 5845 m above sea level and offers the amazing Himalayan spectrums. Some permits and royalty charges are required in this region, which includes trekking permit, Mera Peak royalty Charge and permits and few others. There are several teahouses and lodges with basic facilities in this region. Since this is not so commercial trekking route in Nepal and sophisticated accommodation is not available, you need to stay in basic teahouses.

The trek starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu valley to Lukla. The trek from Lukla through the Rhododendron, Oak and Pine forest will take you to Chhunthang. The further trek from Chhunthang is difficult as you will be crossing the Zatrawala Pass at an elevation of 4600 m.

Trailing further, you will reach Kothe in Hinku valley at an elevation of 4182 m. the Lungsumgba Gompa at Gondishung is amazing and the trek takes you to the Thangnak village. You will have some acclimatization and local exploration in Khare village. The next trek from Khare comes the day of getting to the Mera High Camp which is the beginning point of Mera Peak Climbing. You will climb early to the Mera Peak top and return back to Kongma Dingma and rest there. 

The trek ahead will take you towards the Seti Pokhari which is closer to the technical and difficult Amphu Lapcha La Pass. The crossing trek of Amphu Lapcha La pass starts from the south base camp of Amphu Lapcha La to North Base camp. It is also the major difficult day of the trek but equally adventurous one. The trekking further will take you to Pangboche, Namche Bazaar and Lukla. From Lukla, you will have a returning flight to Kathmandu valley.

Detailed Itinerary

  • DAY 1

    Arrival At Kathmandu, Transfer to Hotel

    Your Arrival Time (?) Our office representative will meet and greet you at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu.

    At 06:00 PM: In the evening we will meet for a coffee and will brief you the details of your trek program.

  • DAY 2

    Sightseeing Around Kathmandu Valley & Trek Preparation

    At 07:00 AM: You will visit for a full day sightseeing of Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and Pashupatinath. Besides sightseeing, you can do the required shopping for your trek.

  • DAY 3

    Flight to Lukla & Trek to Chhuthang

    At 06:00 AM: After breakfast, we will be transferred to domestic airlines terminal for a scenic mountain flight to Lukla also known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport. After landing at the airstrip of Lukla, we will start our trek heading east and pass along several hamlets and wooden yards before entering into a thick forested area filled with rhododendrons, pines, oaks and birch trees. Our trek goes on the hillside below Kalo Himal ridge as we head towards the summer pasture grounds of Chhuthang.

  • DAY 4

    Trek to Thuli Kharka via Zatrawala Pass

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we move towards Zatrawala Pass (4600M), our trail is a gradual ascend and then much steeper climb for the crossing of Zatrawala Pass. After arriving at the top of the pass we are rewarded with breathtaking views of Numbur Himal, Kongdi Ri, Karyolang Peak and other surrounding high peaks. After spending a short time at the top, we continue our trek with a rather easy downhill descent journey as we approach towards Tuli Kharka 
    Elevation: 4,100M

  • DAY 5

    Trek to Kothe

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we will follow the trail that is a descend journey all the way down to Hinku River. After reaching the river bed, we will make a final climb through dense rhododendron filled forest to arrive at Kothe. Kothe is located at the west side of Hinku valley and acknowledged for dense rhododendron forest. 
    Elevation: 4,182M

  • DAY 6

    Trek to Thangnak

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, We trek along the ridge of the Hinku Khola in the shadow of Mera Peak. After a few hours of walk, we will reach Gondishung, the summer herders’ settlement in the west bank of the Hinku Drangka. Beyond Gondishung, we pass a 200-year-old Lungsumgba Gompa where we can find Mera Peak scripted in rock along with its route to reach Mera. From here a rather easy and short trek will lead us towards the summer grazing settlement of Thangnak.

  • DAY 7

    Trek to Khare

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we follow the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to Dig Kharka, which offers spectacular views of Charpate Himal. The trail climbs through moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers and then climbs more steeply to Khare. From here, we can see the northern face of Mera Peak.

  • DAY 8

    Acclimatization And Rest Day

    At 07:00 AM: Proper acclimatization is very important to avoid altitude sickness and to ensure a successful summit climb. We are at 5,000 meters above sea level. Thus, we will take a rest at Khare for acclimatization and exploration. Besides, Khare offers a number of good hikes to its visitors which are remarkably best places for exploration and for acclimatization.

  • DAY 9

    Trek to Mera High Camp

    At 07:00 AM: We walk through a boulder-strewn course on a steep trail to reach the Mera Peak Base Camp. From here, we continue further through the Mera La pass to reach the Mera High Camp. Our path is along a rocky trail, which can be hazardous if it has recently snowed, as there are a number of crevasses here. We make our way to the top of the rock band, which is marked by a large cairn. Then set up a high camp while enjoying excellent views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang and Baruntse.

  • DAY 10

    Summit Mera Peak and descend to Kongma Dingma

    At 03:00 AM: We wake up around 2 in the morning for breakfast. It’s going to be very cold in the beginning but we get warmer as we continue up the glacier and onto a peculiar ridge. The first rays of the sun hit the big peaks in an amazing red glow. The route is still non-technical as we slowly climb higher into the ever-thinning air. The slope steepens for a section behind the ridge and the summit comes back into view. At the foot of the final steep summit cone, we may attach to a fixed rope depending on the conditions. The summit is only a few meters away. From the summit, we take in amazing views of the mighty Himalayas including Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Nuptse, Chamlang, Baruntse etc. Later, we retrace our steps back to the high camp where we rest for a while before descending to Kongma Dingma.

  • DAY 11

    Rest Day at Kongma Dingma

    At 07:00 AM: We will take a rest day at Kongma Dingma. We earn a rest day after summit to Mera Peak which is 6461 meters above from sea level. During our day we will explore around or just have a rest. This Day can also be taken as a second attempt to Mera Peak if we fail to Summit the peak during day 10 of our itinerary.
    Elevation: 4,850M

  • DAY 12

    Trek to Seto Pokhari

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we will follow the trail that leads higher into yak pasture grounds of the beautiful and remote valley. Our trail heads directly into the epicentre of the world’s towering mountains. We trek along with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and high alpine valleys. Our trek continues until we arrive at Seto Pokhari. Seto Pokhari literally means ‘White Lake’ in Nepali language and is the first of a series of lakes in the upper Honku Basin.
    Elevation: 4,825M

  • DAY 13

    Trek to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (South)

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we move towards our next destination. This is one of the remotest parts of the Himalayas, so we rarely see any trekkers en-route except if it is a very high tourist season. Our trail gradually ascends journey over the Honku valley which offers true mountain wilderness. We will continue to trek along the beautiful Honku valley and in short time we will arrive at Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (South)

  • DAY 14

    Trek to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (North) via Amphu Lapcha La Pass

    At 07:00 AM: Today we start early for the crossing of the technically difficult and challenging alpine pass – Amphu Lapcha La Pass at 5,845 meters. The pass is often covered with snow and ice, so moving one step at a time – we head towards the top of the pass. Once at the top of the pass we are rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding high mountains. From the top we will descend vigorously to reach Amphu Lapcha North Base Camp 5300 meters above from sea level.

  • DAY 15

    Trek to Pangboche

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we will follow the trail that is mostly downhill trekking along the moraine as we arrive at Chhukung. From here our trek passes through several villages inhabited by Sherpa ethnic communities. After few hours of trekking, we will arrive at Pangboche. There is a famous monastery at Pangboche, that is believed to be the oldest monastery in the whole Khumbu region.
    Elevation: 3,930M

  • DAY 16

    Trek to Namche Bazaar

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we will follow the trail that descends for a while before climbing up towards Tengboche. We will pay a visit at Tengboche Monastery before descending down through densely forested area towards the village of Trashinga. A rather easy trail from there will lead us to Namche Bazaar.
    Elevation: 3,440M

  • DAY 17

    Trek to Lukla

    At 08:00 AM: Today is the last day of our trek and will further move downwards to reach our final destination of the trek Lukla It is mostly a downhill trek on a trail alongside the Dudh Koshi River. We cross several suspension bridges, pass by several monasteries and villages before reaching Lukla. After reaching Lukla we spend the rest of the day taking a rest as today will be our last day on the mountains. 
    Elevation: 2,815M

  • DAY 18

    Flight to Kathmandu

    At 06:00 AM: On this day we are returning to Kathmandu by flight. You will get shopping time in Kathmandu and we will have a farewell Nepali dinner together.

  • DAY 19

    Departure

    You will be free until your flight time; we will drop you at Kathmandu Airport 3 hour before your flight.
