Arun Valley to Lukla Trek is a 14 days trek that starts from the Tumlingtar and ends in the gateway to Everest-Lukla. A scenic flight from Kathmandu will take you to the Tumlingtar through the eastern Himalayas of Nepal. Tumlingtar is the trek starting point. From Tumlingtar you will be trekking to Kartike village throughout the farmlands, subtropical forest, and the mountains. From Kartike village, you will trek to Gothey Bazaar. It is a small village along the Irkhuwa Khola in the eastern part and the beautiful mountains and the rice terraces will make your trip more exciting.

The further trek from Gothey Bazaar leads to Phedi. You will enter the Solukhumbu region from where you can see the beautiful views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Makalu, and Mt. Everest and many more. The trail further will take you to Gurase village, Sanam and Bung village where you can explore the mindblowing culture and traditions of people, the lifestyle and amazing natural beauty. From the wonderful Bung village, you will be trekking to Gai Kharka, Panggom and Puiyan village exploring the astounding Himalayan beauty environed by the amazing nature. The trek further will take you to Lukla from where you will have a flight back to the Kathmandu valley.

Detailed Itinerary

  • DAY 1

    Kathmandu Arrival,Transfer to Hotel

    Your Arrival Time (?) Our office representative will meet and greet you at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu.

    At 06:00 PM: In the evening we will meet for a coffee and will brief you the details of your trek program.

  • DAY 2

    Sightseeing Around Kathmandu Valley And Trek Preparation Day

    At 10:00 AM: You will visit for a full day sightseeing of Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and Pashupatinath. Besides sightseeing, you can do the required shopping for your trek.

  • DAY 3

    Flight to Tumlingtar, Trek to Kartike

    At 07:00 AM: The early morning flight from Kathmandu gives us attractive views of the hills, gorges, and the eastern Himalayas until we land in Tumlingtar. Located between the twisting Arun and Sabha River in Koshi zone, it is also the biggest Tar and the deepest valley of Nepal. Following the main trail downhill past farms to Kumal Gaon, on the edge of a broad plateau. We followed the Arun River east, crossing it on a cantilevered metal bridge to the village of Bheteni. From here we would walk for about an hour to Chyawabesi for lunch. Passing through the subtropical forest, the trail continues south along the east bank of Arun through a series of small Rai, Chettri and Brahmin villages. With a little exploration of these villages, we will reach a lively village Kartike.

  • DAY 4

    Trek to Gothey

    At 07:00 AM: Walk through the meadows to pass the bridge over Arun River to reach the tiny village of Baluwa Besi. The trail climbs into Sal forest and passes several villages before continuing on a trail through rice terraces to reach the Rai village of Marduwa. Then we move along the north shore of the Irkhuwa Khola all the way through a steamy scenery of rice terraces and banana farms to Gothey Bazaar.

  • DAY 5

    Trek to Phedi

    At 07:00 AM: Ascend through Rai and Sherpa villages crossing suspension bridges over Irkhuwa Khola to reach Dobane. Pass through the sprawling villages of Tendor and Tallo Phedi with their tidy slate-roofed houses, cutting in and out of the forest. The trail leads upward through terraces lands with rice fields that seem impossibly green, divided by trickling irrigation channel. It passes through damp patches of forest following the south bank. The trail follows the bottom of the fertile rice-growing Irkhuwa valley, crossing the river on a rickety bamboo bridge. Take the path running over the Sanu Khola to Phedi. We will enter the SoluKhumbu region by crossing the Phedi. We can have a beautiful view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Makalu, and Mt. Everest among others from here.

  • DAY 6

    Trek to Gurase

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we will ascend from Phedi it is perilously steep, climbing along the spur that divides the Irkhuwa Khola and Sanu Khola. After ascending from Jaubire, approach the sprawling village of Thulo Fokte. Crossing gentle stone path, it’s a pleasant ascent through the forest, with lots of sunny clearings for rest stops. Climbing up towards forest of oak, birch and rhododendron you’ll have giddying views of the plunging valley. The trail drops down from the top of the spur to Bilbate. About 30 minutes further we will reach a tiny stone village of Gurase.

  • DAY 7

    Trek to Sanam

    At 07:00 AM: The trail begins after passing through lush rhododendron forest to reach Salpa Pokhari. Situated in Salpa Bhanjyang, Salpa Pokhari is a holy pond, visited by throngs of Hindu pilgrims each year during the full moon of October. After about total journey of 2 hrs we will reach Salpa Pokhari, a wish-fulfilling sacred pool set at 3414m. The area is surrounded by hemlock and fir forests abound with birds and wildlife. Glimpses of Makalu and Chamlang can be seen from Salpa Bhanjyang.  The pass is often covered with snow in winter. Moving on the path runs across the hillside and through the damp forest to Sanam.

  • DAY 8

    Trek to Bung

    At 07:00 AM: First part of the day is gentle but sustained descend through a forest of rhododendron, brown oaks and chir pines. About two hours from Share, exposed to lush, forested valley ahead of Gudel. It is another pleasant Rai valley of whitewashed houses and kitchen gardens, almost a mirror image of Bung. Cross the Hongu Khola by a steel suspension bridge The main trail drops past the village of school through a patchwork of rice, millet and soybean terraces to the village of Bung.

  • DAY 9

    Trek to Gai kharka

    At 07:00 AM: Today trail descends steeply onwards from a notch in the cliff wall. The slopes are covered in wispy thickets of bamboo. Today we will pass Najindingma village. You will have a view of a clear area of grassland, used as summer grazing by people from surrounding valleys. Another one and a half-hour of drop across soggy forests, we will reach Gai kharka. It lies at the elevation of 2,300m and against the glorious Mt. Makalu. The Arun valley’s beautiful scenery can be seen from here. Here you’ll have wonderful views of grassy terraces and scattered farmhouses.

  • DAY 10

    Trek to Panggom

    At 07:00 AM: Crossing a humid, ferny forest, the trail continues across the Hinku Khola on a 62m-long, steel cable bridge. You will watch two sparkling waterfalls and path begins an almost vertical ascent to the valley of Sibuje, also known as Vase and Chatuk, for about 2 hrs. Further uphill, you’ll see pocket-sized village Gompa. The trail ascends for an hour through a patchy forest of scraggly rhododendrons.
    Elevation: 2,850M

  • DAY 11

    Trek to Puiyan

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we will trek downhill at first and then up and over Kari La. After having lunch trail drops downhill, quite steeply in the end to where the Arun Valley path joins the route from Jiri just before Puiyan. The terrain can be frustrating, with the trail diverting into side valleys and being far from a direct line to Puiyan but it is interesting to trek. Puiyan is a nice village overlooking a small tributary of the Dudh Koshi.

  • DAY 12

    Trek to Lukla

    At 07:00 AM: From Puiyan, it’s reasonably easy to make Lukla with a few hours. We can also visit Kharte La Pass. The trail winds uphill along the Jiri path. Today is a short and easy day trek and even a rest day in the Lukla valley.
    Elevation: 2,860M

  • DAY 13

    Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu

    At 07:00 AM: After breakfast, we will catch an early flight and we will return to the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu with a 45-minute flight back to the domestic airport. In the evening, you can have your last night in Nepal enjoying the Nepali cultural dinner.

  • DAY 14

    Departure

    You will be free until your flight time; we will drop you at Kathmandu Airport 3 hour before your flight.
